There may be various problems preventing successful regeneration. In most cases, there are stored fault-codes present in the drive train or in the exhaust system.
Please do a diagnostic session and try to clear the found fault codes. Some of these faults have to be repaired to start a successful regeneration.
Known problems:
- More than two defective glow plugs (especially at colder temperatures or in winter)
- Defective coolant-thermostats (the coolant temperature should reach 85°C)
- Defective exhaust-pressure-sensor
- Problems with the intake-airmass sensor or with the throttle
- Special faults, e.g. 00480A or 00481A (if you can not clear the faults, please go to a local repair shop to check your diesel filter)
We recommend not to start a regeneration too often in succession (as a rule, the soot mass oscillates between 0-5g in the fully-fired state and approximately 30g just before regenerating). One day gap between the regeneration required may help.
We have the best experience with the following process:
- Connect the adapter with the car and switch on the ignition
- Connect the app to the adapter/car
- Stich directly after the successful connection to the DPF-tile and start the DPF-Check
Now the app shows you the soot and ash masses from your filter
- For a soot mass from approx. 15-20g, a regeneration can be requested. For lower values this is usually unnecessary. With soot masses of more than 30-35g, there might be problems with the exhaust-system or the engine
Then please run a diagnostic session and try to clear the faults. Sometimes you must fix the faults before you can start the regeneration
- Now you can request a regeneration by tapping the button
- The DPF values can also be recorded and you can send it later via email
- After a succesfull regeneration you have to go for a so called regeneration drive
Drive at a constant speed of 80 km/h (or faster) for 20-30 minutes. This results in the necessary exhaust gas and cooling water temperature, so that the engine control unit starts the regeneration.
- Now you should see a decrease of the soot mass -> Regeneration is successful!
